MINDSET EXERCISE 1 - CORE VALUES

Our core values help us understand our inner self better. What we do, why we do it and where we are going, all derive from our core values. What is a core value? Core values are the real things that drive you. They are not necessarily, the same across all areas of our lives. Your core values will differ across the different areas of your lives. To find your values you need to look at all aspects of your life. These areas are similar to the Wellbeing Wheel of Life you carry out at the beginning of this course. Such as Work, Family, Friends, Relationship, Health, Lifestyle

This exercise does take time and needs to be revisited at different periods of our lives. Usually you would carry out this exercise with an NLP Practitioner / Coach. However here is a version you can do yourself. It is something you can work on when you want to review a particular area of your life.

Exercise :

Settle yourself somewhere without interruptions. Close your eyes (Optional)

Pick an area of your life (Work, Relationship, Health, Friends. Family, Lifestyle) and take yourself to a moment when you were at your best. When everything is going as planned, the people you are working with ,the job you are doing, the location, the company, the project, the friends, family etc

Are you there ?

What does it feel like? What can you smell? See? Who do you see?

What stands out? Why?

Hold on to that thought? Take a deep breath and open your eyes

Write the first three words that come to mind

Repeat this exercise and see if you write similar words again. If you are drawn to the same words in that area of your life then these things matter. They are close to your core values.

You maybe surprised at what really is important /matters to you.
